Lesson00 and Lesson01:Defining Creativity

Introduction of Creative Studies

Wow! Creative Studies! I hope this is an interesting and extraordinary subject, because it is about creativity!

I expected this class will be fun not only because of the subject's contents but also the way its presented and also the person who will deliver the lectures.

I also hope I can learn a better ways to become a creative person. I would like to gain more knowledge about it.

Defining Creativity

Exercise:

We are required to create a creative image of our friend and put it in the blog with descriptions, expressions, experiences and etc.

This is an image of my friend, Calvin Koh Yang Sun.

I drew him like this because for me, Calvin is like a "Superman". Why? Let me explain. In Superman, as Clark Kent, he is an ordinary reporter but in time of crisis he become Superman. Same also with Calvin, he looks ordinary but actually he can become a "Super Creativeman" when needed.

Calvin got many talents. He likes music and can play bass and guitar. He also likes design and good in Photoshop and 3D Max Modelling. And the best thing I like about him is...he likes to perform illusions. Like a magician! He always bring cards to where ever he goes and perform card tricks.

Amazing, right? He is a very creative person. Yeah! A "Super Creativeman"! I hope I can be as creative as him, but.....in my own ways!

Lecture Summary:

From the lecture in Week 2 by Mr. Yap Sau Bin, we can describe that creativity is an ability to imagine and generate ideas by combining, changing, or reapplying existing ideas. Some people are creative by nature and for others, creativity can be nurtured by using the right method and technique. There is no such thing as people who are not creative. Actually, it isn't being creative that is hard, it is working on developing that ability.

Sometimes in our life, by using the creative way in problem solving, we can develop creativity in the process. We also can use creativity in almost all aspects in our life as in cooking, dealing with people and exercising. Creativity belongs to everyone and not just the domain of an artist.

For conclusion, creativity is an ability, an attitude and a process.

Personal Reflection:

In my own opinion, I agree that there is no such thing as people who are not creative. Everyone can be creative if they know the right way to do it. But of course, we need a lot of effort to create something new that astonishing and brilliant.

In this lecture, the part I really like is about learning that creative people have unique characteristics which contradict to themselves. For example, they are energetic but they also often quiet; tend to be smart yet also naive at the same time.

And for conclusion, I think this lecture is good and Mr. Yap Sau Bin done a good job for it.
